Losmandy Mount Grease!

What type of grease is std. grease. I cleaned my 8 year old G-11 per instructions from the losmandy page and now need to grease the bearings. It said to use standard grease. Can anybody tell me what that is?

Not sure what Losmandy means by "standard grease", but most of us that use Losmandy mounts have relubed with white lithium grease, or something similar. You can get white lithium grease at a lot of places, but it is pretty cheap in the Walmart automotive section. There are several there to choose from too. I have heard of good results from using Slik 50 grease...this is NOT to be confused with the Slik 50 synthetic oil additive! It comes in a short squat can that says Slik 50 on it, and it has a snap on lid.

When relubing, make sure you get a decent amount on your finger and make sure that it gets pressed into the races on the roller bearings pretty good. You don't want any areas without grease in them.

Also, I recently picked up something at Radio Shack called "Lube Gel" on the recommendation from someone on the Yahoo Losmandy Group some time back, but I have not yet used it.

How does White Lithium grease work in the cold- say 20 F. I used some on my garage door once and it stoped lifting until it got warmer out. Would it make my mount move hard in the cold?

Thanks for all the responces. I got my mount put back together after cleaning and regreasing, and it is smooth as butter. Balance is once again very touchy, the clutches grab firmly and just knowing that fresh grease is in there instead of that brown waxey crap is enough to put my mind at ease.
