Hi,

Will a LX200 Classic permanently mounted on a pier need to be re-alligned each time the computer is turned off and on? The answer will determine my next purchase. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
It depends on what you exactly mean by re-aligned. If you are using the LX200 alone, polar mount, and no computer attached, then yes, you would need to do a 1 star alignment. This is not like setting up polar alignment the first time. If your going to operate in altazimuth mode, then you would need to do a two star alignment for the most accurate pointing but you could do a single star for casual viewing. If you have a computer attached to the scope, then no, the LX200 command set has a home function which is not available through the keypad. This is valid in either polar or altazimuth modes. Go to Meade's website and download the LX200 Classic manual, it's on page 56 of the Meade manual.
Also MAPUG has several discussions on this.
