LXD55 SN8 OTA Ring Question

The upper half the OTA mount rings are threaded for attaching additional equipemnt to the OTA... what is the size of this thread/mount point?

I'm seriously considering an LXD55 SN10 but what has been holding me back is that I have not really heard much about these scopes. The concern I have is the massive size of the OTA and the minimum size of the mount to tripod area. It's a little windy in these parts and it sure looks like the 10" would oscillate in virtually any breeze.

Your comments and experience in comparison to other scopes you have owned would be greatly appreciated.
