Anyone know the weight of a Meade 10" SCT LX50 OTA?

That's the basic question...Now for the Big question...

Would a LXD55 mount on a very heavy wooden tripod handle this scope? For visual use only.

If the lxd55 will hold a 10" schmidt newtonian, I suspect it would hold a 10" SCT. However, it probably would be marginal. And with that head extended on a wooden tripod (unless it is professionally made), that could make matters worse. Of course, a wooden tripod will more than likely be better than an aluminum one.

The heavy tripod will help, but the head itself is not too strong.

By the way, Celestron says the 9.25 fits on a CG-5....And the CG-5 is similar to the LXD 55, in my opinion.

I think it might work--but it will be taxed to max.

I think you should plan for more.
