Meade UWA's or Nagler Type 6's

Hello, I was wondering what you guys thought of the Meade 14 mm and 8.8 mm UWA eyepieces. Does any of you know the real eye relief of both of these models? Some websites list the 14 mm having 23 mm of eye relief which seems to be a joke. I'm trying to compare these eyepieces to the Nagler Type 6 13mm and 9 mm. The viewing lens of the 9 mm Nagler Type 6 is not recessed at all and my eyelashes leave streaks of oil if I happen to blink while observing. I read that the lens are recessed in the Meade's.

Thanks, Bryan

My Meade 8.8 UWA has a recessed eye lens. Eye relief is pretty close, if you want to soak up the entire FOV. If you wear glasses while observing, this eyepiece is not for you. I don't wear my glasses when observing, so the eyepiece works great. This is my first premium eyepiece, so I can't compare it to other premiums.

Clear skies,

I believe the Meade 14mm UWA is one of the best eyepieces out there. It gives a true spacewalk feel and for me, has perfect eye relief of around 13-15mm. No blackout effect at all. I use this eyepiece more than any other in my set and before the type 6 came out would say it had very little competition.

One big advantage ( no pun intended ) of the Nagler 13mm type 6 is its smaller size. The Meade 14mm UWA is definately a large/heavy eyepiece. Plan on rebalancing your scope if you are moving between the 14mm UWA and other smaller 1.25" eyepieces.

There are some comparitive reviews out there between the two. A google search should find them. Most of what I have read has placed them on par or put the Nagler slightly ahead visually... the Nagler however wins hands down when you consider the smaller size. Last I checked the Nagler was even about $10 cheaper.
