I've been trying to figure out how to best mount a 6-8" f/12 -f/15 refractor for some high power observing of double stars. Anybody out there do this kind of thing? What do you use or suggest?

Morgan,

The best way to mount it is in whatever UPS or FEDEX will take and ship it to someone else. Take the money and buy something useable. These things need to be in a permanent observatory. The eyepiece height range is taller than you are.

Our club has a Clark 6" f/15 and I've used it in my back yard - never again. The SLIGHTEST breeze makes the image dance.

Hi Morgan,

I had a D&G 6" F/15 on a Meade DS-16 mount with a heavy wood tripod and it was an excellent combination. The mount was on rollers and the 6" was almost a "quick grab scope" as I just rolled the mount out of the garage, dropped the tube into the rings and began observing.

I am planning to mount my 8" F/12 D&G on a Parallax HD150/200 mount. It will be a bit more of a beast to set up but worth it!
