I have done my due dilligence research etc. and come to the decision to buy a Dobsonian. My question is,should I get the 8" goto or 10" goto ? I am,not a newbie and have read many books and invested many nights with my Nikon 7X50 binocs. I am,not wondering if the price difference is worth it since they have identical focal lengths. The extra weight and size not an issue. Should I get the 10 and short myself on accessories or the 8 inch and splurge on eyepiece etc ? Thanks in advance.

I've enjoyed Dobs from tiny to gargantuan. There is no right answer. I do remember thoroughly enjoying my home made 6-inch for a couple of years and was then comfortable, experienced and ready to go bigger. You could of course forgo the goto and even the encoders to get used to finding things "the old fashioned way" which does have value. Having a decent low power eyepiece and then USING it a lot will be the best value of all.

29-inch Dob in a dome
36-inch upgrade soon
LUNT 80/80 solar scope
FLI 6803 cam
APM 100mm APO Binos
JMI RB-16 Night Vision Binos
Zeiss 20x60 IS binos

Jerry, no accessory is going to make up for that extra aperture. I'd definitely get the 10" and slowly acquire the extra accessories when you determine what you need and can afford them. smile
