Has anybody used these, looked through them, heard of them?

They go for about $600 street, and are an all-mechanical design, like the Zeiss 12x60 beast. I have a hunch this is the same model as, or the descendent of, the Russian-made mechanical IS binocular reviewed by Sky&Tel (May 1998 or January 2000), along with the Canon 15x45 and the Fujinon Technostabi.

They weigh about 3 lbs., which is what the Canon 15x50 IS weighs when you add batteries.

Any other thoughts on IS binocs? I am also thinking of the Canon 12x36 IS on account of the lighter weight. Not sure I want to hold 3 lbs. stabilized or not... I have an ad on Astromart looking for a used IS set.

Oh, that's 20x60 for the Zeiss IS binoc, not 12x60.

I did a very cursory review on the zeiss. do a search for details. basically, theyre great. i've managed to compare to the canon is 15x50's recently - images are crisper with zeiss although i wasnt sure if the actual stabilizing mechanism on the canon might've been better (my bias was not to pick up on such an improvement, after all i want my toy to be the best). my test image was the n american nebula - in terms of image quailty, no contest, period. i had to "imagine" it with the canons whereas with zeiss's, it STILL knocks me out.
good luck in finding used pair as that's the only reasonable way to get one unless you have deep pockets.
