Night vision scope for telescope viewing

Has anybody out there attempted using one of those monocular night vision scopes (you can get one for under $300) to enhance viewing on a telescope? I know that a company makes a producted call I 3 which uses night vision technology to enhance viewing, but its product isn't cheap.
(a couple thousand) Seems to me one could adapt on of those cheaper night vision scopes to get the same result? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

I don't think this will work. I think that the cheaper night vision devices use infrared detectors, and I doubt that the amount of IR radiation from the stars most likely will drown in background radiation.
