Hey guys. I am ready to buy a digital SLR camera and I am trying to decide whether I should pickup the Canon Rebel Digital or the Nikon d70 that is coming out. They are simarly priced but I have seen the Canon around for $900 with 18-50mm lens included. Anyone have any input on these two cameras, or know places online with good pricing? Thanks allot for your help.

I would wait if you are serious about the D70. Aren't many out yet and I haven't heard anything about their astro performance. We pretty much know the 300D and D10 perform well.

Another thing to consider is if you don't already own Nikon lenses and stuff you might be in store for some sticker shock.

I believe the Canon 10D might be a little more suited for astrophotography, as opposed to it's little Rebel brother which is lacking some features like mirror lockup. (maybe the noise reduction on long exposures, too?)

Dave,

Have been reading the D70 posts on dpreview.com? The D70 looks very promising for astrophotography:
