oil for Byers gear?

My 12" telescope with a 12" Byers gear has been sitting outside for years and I have just cleaned it up. I put a light oil on the worm and the scope kind of stick slips in the normal direction (but not the other). Should these gears (bronze worm and aluminum wheel) be run dry, light oil or heavy grease? Thanks for any ideas.

Add some light lithium grease to the teeth. Clean out any dirt before you run the gears.
