In the past threads have spiralled on regarding the good old SCT. Many would be less than complimentary when it came to the issue of planetary imaging. I wonder how attitudes have changed with the many excellent images routinely posted on sites like this obtained with the humble webcam. Check out Rolands superb jupiter images taken with the C8 in the CCD images section. These images hold up against any taken with other designs of scope. It takes the argument out of the classroom and shows what the SCT owner has been saying for years!!

Webcam images say a lot about the value of stacking and image processing but not so much about the scope being used to take those photos except that webcams and SCTs are nicely matched.

The lowered contrast of the detail that is an important factor visually is taken care of via image processing of hundreds, even thousands of images.

I find tht my NS8GPS does extremely well on planetary observation. At a star party this Wednesday, it had the best views of the planets. Scopes were 4" Unitron Refractor, 6" AR6 Meade Refractor, 13" DOB and my NS8GPS.
Not that many scopes, but it has consistantly been the best view for planets at several parites in our club.
I get very good performance with my DOBs, 12.5" and 15" as well, but the SCT does very nicely.
