Barring major catastrophes how often should one clean their primary mirror. I can see at least two small bits of debris on the mirror that I assume do not affect performance appreciably. I have a 6" f/8 Newtonian and this would be a bit involved.

Once a year, if needed should be fine. If the mirror gets contaminates such as pollen and there is dew present, then a cleaning would be justified as things might grow on the mirror, such as mildew or mold.

I think you've answered your own question. "....do not affect
performance appreciably...." When there is obvious haze or
crud all over the mirror, then its time to consider cleaning.
Proper cleaning should not harm properly applied coatings. But
"accidents do happen" and "properly applied" is not 100% certain.
There is a little known, but strong attraction between mirror
surfaces and screwdrivers / wrenches / flashlights.
