Tony,

I have been VERY happy with my Lens pens and have cleaned some pretty dirty EP's with them. I think if you follow the directions you should be fine. The only time I would truly worry is if it got grit or sand on it somehow. Then you might want to replace. What people don't realize is that the coatings today are MUCH more durable than in the past. I talked to Al Nagler at length on the subject and he said the same thing. In fact, when asked he told me to clean his EP's with Windex and a paper towel. Most of us wouldn't do that, but it is a good indication that the coatings are a little more durable then we give them credit for being.

Paul,

That's great to know...gives me more confidence when cleaning my eyepieces and maybe even my APO lens.

I have seen the coatings get scratched on a new Nagler with no grit on it by just using a special lens cleaning cloth and cleaner. The better thing I have found is white untreated Klenex and I use a special cleaner that I make myself that I got the receipe off the internet from a man that cleaned lens at a large observatory. I don't use anything except Klenex on any mirror or lens anymore. Just a word of caution, you can easily scratch a new TV EP! Be very careful what you use on it. If you look at the coating with a loop you will see scratches that you dont see with the naked eye! Check out your lens next time on a new EP with a loop and then clean it and check it again. If you see scratches using your paper towel or rag or what ever, start using Klenex tissues.

Just don't try anything rough with Meade "series 4000" coatings.
