Retrofit CG-5 handbox for autoguider?

Asked this in the Celestron forum but not sure it fits there so asking here too:
I have what I'm pretty sure are CG-5 dual axis drives on my SuperPolaris mount (it is 10 year old SPC102). I am using it
for "wide field" photography with camera riding piggyback on the optical tube. So, question, since I have a 201xt to use with my other scope, can I retrofit the control panel for the SuperPolaris mount's drive to take instructions from the 201xt?

Any help MOST appreciated!

Heggie,

I can't quite figure out what you are asking....

I read it that you have a super polaris mount, but that the controls and motors you have running it are those for a CG-5.

If that is the case, I can share my experience trying to get a CG-5 rewired to work with an autoguider. I failed.

I posted requests for information on several forums, I called Celestron, I took the whole thing apart and looked through it, and poked and prodded with a meter trying to figure out what is happening when one pushes a button. I got nowhere, and after all that effort still cannot use the CG-5 with an autoguider--and have been told by Celestron that it cannot be done.

I hope somebody out there has a better answer.

Its realy not that hard. Meade makes a part (#520 Electronic Relay) to adapt the 201xt for use on a non meade scope. There is some simple soldering and electronics knowledge needed to complete the task, but nothing major. I would start by taking the hand paddle apart and using a electrical meter to figure out which contacts close when a button is pushed. Then all you need to do is run a wire from each side of the button contacts to the little adapter that meade sells. Repeat this for the other three buttons. I have done this to a CG-5, GP, and even a Sky View deluxe for use with both the 201xt, and the Star Track software.

Id be more than happy to complete this task for anyone for free + return shipping (plus the #520 relay). I could put together a How To if someone supplies the pieces.
