I'm looking at a trade for a Meade 8" SCT, but the secondary mirror has lots of little dark spots on it. Can anyone tell me where I can get it re-coated??

Meade only offers replacement of the optical set complete.

Thanks

Steve,
You might want to figure out what the spots are! Maybe they can be cleaned off the mirror? I would think that any mirror recoating service would do it. Nothing special about recoating a scondary that I know of anyway. Let's see if anyone has more info.

http://home.covad.net/~alcoat/ here is one place in California that would probably do it.

Ted,

That's it exactly... Multi-coated silvered optics.

If that's really silver, I suppose the tarnish may not be that big a problem. Like he said, not worth the trouble of recoating the mirror.

Did he say the silver would have to be removed before recoating with aluminum? I'm guessing that the silver could be filling any imperfections in the glass that could be problematic in recoating with aluminum.

Thanks for the response.
