Seeing double with TV diagonal

Yesterday I looked in my 80mm refractor at some artificial stars and also at Vega at hight power >= 200x. With my Televue dielectric 1.25" diagonal the Airy discs looked like figures of eight! The effect disappeared with another diagonal and straight through. Is anything wrong with the diagonal?

This does sound strange and certainly not normal. Did you buy this diagonal new or used? The first thing that came to mind is the mirror has been replaced with a regular second surface mirror.
However, almost everything would have a double or ghost image but might be very faint.
