Shroud Material

Hi: My wife has made me some nice scope covers for my 12.5 inch and 16 inch truss/strut dobs and now she is ready to attack the job of sewing up a couple of shrouds.

So, looking for suggestions as to the ideal material... I am guessing one wants something lint free, something black, something relatively strong that is somewhat stretchy and breathes.

Thoughts and suggestions are most appreciated.

A while back my wife made me a custom dark cloth for use with a 4x5 view camera to enable me to focus the dim groundglass image in daylight. I just told her what it had to do and she went to a local Jo-Ann fabric store and found just the right thing. It's amazing the stuff they have there.

You might take a look at the stretchy denim type material commonly used for women's jeans or maybe a thinner stretchy spandex type material.

I make shrouds custom order and find that a heavy Polyester/Spandex blend does a nice job. The stretch makes it easy to install and fit nicely. The good fabric cost about $12-15 a yard.

Has anyone experimented with a shroud designed to block body heat? Maybe some thin foam. Might not make much difference in San Diego.
