Simple pleasures...

Just spent an early evening, hour and a half enjoying the view through a Stellarvue Blackhawk (80mm f/6) with a single eyepiece, a Pentax 40XL. Let's see 80 times six equals 480...divded by 40 is 12???
Didn't look for a single Messier, particular star, NGC??? Nope, I looked for nothing.
I spent the time just scanning the sky and enjoying star field after starfield...
Probably the best time I've had in months.
I'm off to bed early. Alarm is set for 3:00. I'll pack a few shorter length eyepieces for some early morning views.

Hi David,

Great post! Any number of people may tell you that the exit pupil did this or that to your scope's aperture or your dark adapted eye's pupil. But who cares- the sheer joy of scanning around at low power is its own reward. I often find myself caught up too much in the equipment and forgetting the wonder of simply looking!

I get my simple pleasures with just a pair of 10x50s... simple, no tripod. Perfect freedom to roam the skies...

Last time I scanned star fields, it started raining on me - from nowhere! Just a couple of small cloudds overhead.
