Has anyone come up with a way to cover rough ground or asphalt? I mean something like a portable surface that you can set up that does not weigh a ton or take up the whole pickup bed?
When you use even a short ladder to see through the EP is is not very nice to have holes and uneven ground to deal with all night! :^)
Our best site has asphalt but it is in sad shape,it is due to be resurfaced next year. Until then I have to deal with a poor piece of dirt or crumbling asphalt and would like some ideas.
I have a 15" DOB and an 8" SCT so it would be nice to use with both scopes.
Thanks for you suggestions,
Floyd

This is just an off-the-wall thought, but if you're regularly using more or less the same chunk of ground, you could probably patch it cheaper and faster yourself than anything else you can come up with. If it's earth, then I'd guess that an hour with a pick, shovel and tamper would probably suffice for a small personal spot. Likewise, if it's asphalt, then a 5g. pail of patch from Home Depot and an hour's work would probably mend it well enough until it all gets redone next year. If you can guarantee that you'll be the lucky club member that always gets to set up there, then I would think either of those methods might be preferable to anything you can drag along with you each time. Just a thought.

BTW, I enjoy your posts.
