Hi Folks,
I'm headed south (hemisphere) on business and figure I need to work the astronomy angle - need a guide book:
Not too thrilled with Tiron's 2 books (amazon has samples online, table of contents not too enticing).
very little on Reidy and Wallace's book out there along with Lantsen's - no reviews or exerpts that I can find.
Anyone down-under care to comment or any experience out there?
May just take my trusty Karkoschka.

Hartung's "Astronomical Objects for Southern Telescopes" 2nd Ed, is the current definitive guide book. The Reidy and Wallace book is more a beginner's guide.

But if you're on a short trip, and don't want anything too bulky, the listings of DSO's plotted in Tirion's Bright Star Atlas is a good guide to the best and brightest must see objects.

The WEBB Society has volume #7 The Southern Sky which has some interesting deep sky lists, and descriptions. Can be found for not much $.

Also they have the Visual Atlas of the Magellanic Clouds which is a descripion of most of the NGC objects to be seen in a modest scope. Itis 56 pages, have'nt seen so can't comment how good it is. It is only $7.
