Spots?

I just purchased my first scope, an 8" Celestron SCT. I've been trying to collimate it due to fuzzy planets but in the process noticed in the lighted portion of an out of focus star I see spots everywhere moving as my eye moves. I took the eyepiece out and looking into the diagonal still see them. I take the diagonal off and look towards the secondary and still see them. It's like looking at a microscope slide of bacteria or something. Little bubbles very closely randomly spaced. It's driving me crazy because I'm pretty sure they are a defect or dirt, just not sure where or from what!!

Any help with this is much appreciated.

Floaters?

We haven't discussed floaters here in sooooo long.

If you only see them in out of focus stuff, don't worry about it. You should not be looking at stuff when it is out of focus.

There may be some dust in there, and that will do that, although it does not move around with your eye. Dust is relatively harmless, and disappears when in focus.

IOW, per the other replys, those spots are NOT in your scope but rather in your Eye(s).
