Wow...10:00 EST...the new Sky and Telescope has probably arrived for many. And not one post yet about the Tal review.

Russell, keep in mind that the seeing conditions and the skill of the observer/sketcher can make up for A LOT. The few astronomical sketchers that I've corresponded with have all readily said that the way they got good at sketching and observing was through sheer practice and perserverance through lots of cold, lonely nights.

I don't think that you'll be dissapointed with your D&G. I've look through two 5 f/15 and 5 f/12, and they are gorgeous instruments. They do require a substantial mount though!
