Please be on the lookout for a well-used C-14 that might make a sudden appearance in your area. That’s a Celestron orange tube fourteen-inch Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. The telescope was stolen in early March from the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri, an AL member club, in Wentzville, Missouri.
The thief might ask you, or someone in your astronomy club, someone with expertise, to help set it up and operate it. Since owning a big vehicle is all that is needed to move this telescope, from Missouri to any place in the western hemisphere, I appeal to your eyes and ears for help tracking down our C-14.
This C-14 had been used for weekly Outreach at the Broemmelsiek Park Astronomy Site Observatory, in St. Charles County, Missouri. Also, our club used this telescope to teach astro-imaging to interested members. As you might imagine, our club members, and astronomy fans in the community, are distraught over the telescope’s disappearance.
Yes, the observatory was locked, and had what our Parks Department considered adequate security. Park Rangers spend time at the facility daily as part of their rounds. The St. Charles County Police Department is handing the investigation. At your request, we can provide images and more information about the stolen C-14. Please contact [email protected] with any questions you might have.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
