Whoops, my prior posting sounds more negative than intended. I attempted an edit, but it didn't seem to 'take'.

I've been giving some thought to the same sort of thing, recently, which led to my ramblings. The idea of tracking scopes of any kind seems to be the most important factor for success and exciting and delighting the audience. I've seen many suggestions of dobs or non-goto refractors... but every time I've been to a general public gathering they tended to be left by the wayside by the attendees in favor of the goto SCTs with sufficient light gathering, magnification and instant gratification. If you have a multi-night event over a semester with regular attendence, this is, of course, less of an issue.

Kids today use GPS's, and many really have a time trying to figure out why anyone would want to use a map, compass and stopwatch to find their way out of the woods. *grin*.

Steve, could you post your State so that if some of us are interested in contributing time/money/equipment loans, and are in the area we can start a dialog? If you set things up right, this could be tax deductable and of interest at this time of the year.

I appreciate your initiative and willingness to reach out and help your school system.

Again, best wishes
Karl
