Tripod too short? scope too long? cheap fix

I had that problem: eyepiece too low when scope pointed up.

I found a cheap and easy fix. Logs.

These were roughly matched in length and selected for low width/height ratio. The ends were not perfectly level or square but work fine. A 1/2 inch socket was cut (with a router) into the tops for the tripod feet. The ones in the photo raise this scope by 11 inches.

Advantages: cheap and easy to make

Drawbacks: May be a little difficult to find in the city.
Natural logs dont match scope finish. Can be heavy. Not reccomended for imaging.

Gee, those look so easy to make, I bet even a caveman could do it! grin

Can't we buy those same logs online for about $478 (+ S&H)? shocked And, then custom fit them to our scope with a special log adapter for another $125 (+S&H)? wink

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.
