What is your dream scope?

If you ever got the 12" Questar, ...
1) YOu would thoroughly test it;
2) You would immediately find numerous annoying little faults;
3) You would modify it (I'm having a fantasy about yellow cooling fan housings); and
4) You would soon decide on a new "dream scope" and offer the 12" Q here on Astronomart.

Steve in Bakersfield.

I believe everyone has a dream instrument that is either beyond their bank account or is no longer made or a combination of other factors. So I ask: What is your dream scope and why? No professional observatories please.

Here is mine: A Questar 12. Optical and mechanical perfection! No GOTO but man what an instrument 8) As a lunar/planetary observer this would be an ultimate instrument. Now if I could have it and good seeing to match...

I was unaware that a *dream scope* had to be financially unatainable...or historically unavailable.... 8O grin

I'm building my dream scope.....a 10"f/16 refractor with electric focuser and with an objective of my own doing.

I have a 12.5-inch Portaball. It serves me well, but is a bit too heavy to bring along on long trips by plane.

Presently I dream about an even larger, but still lighter scope. The best I can find is a German made telescope specially designed for travelling. It is a 16-inch weighing about half of the Portaball.

But it lacks the ease of assembly and the ergonomic advantage of the Portaball.
