Hi, I have a 2yr old hardin 10" dob. The focuser is my main problem now and would like to get a new one(under 100 bucks). Is a helical style good or stick with an upgrade of the type I have? most of my problem is there is alot of play in the 1.25 adapter after i tighten the set screw( because of that i never know if it is collimated correctly). anyway any info would be appreciated.
thx
Brian

Keep an eye on the classifieds. Under $100 is not easy for a Crayford and that would be your better choice. Though there are a few rack and pinions that work well.
Most of the new focusers will be more like $150+. The Moonlite is $165 for instance.
Or William Optics $150 http://www.buytelescopes.com/product.asp?t=66&pid=4336&m= t ATWB

Hi Brian
I had one of the original gray tube Hardin DSH8" and found that an better 1.25"/2" adapter cured the problem. I purchased a compression model from Mercury System Support and it fit much better in the focuser than the stock one that came with the DSH8".

Hope this helps

Hal,
Yeah the other JMI is fine if all you have is $100, but better is better.
