I have a Discovery 12.5" F5 split tube PDHQ. Well I'm thinking bigger! I love this scope don't get me wrong, but I'm thinking about a 17.5" F5 Discovery truss tube or something. I'm tall, so the F5 height will not be a problem. First does anyone have any opinions on this scope? And second, the more complicated question, what is the difference between a Discovery with a plain mirror and say an Obsession with one of those high tech coatings? I live here in the northeast where seeing conditions can suck to say the least. Would all that high tech coating help? Would it be a waste of money? Last is anyone interested in buying my scope? I’m not ready to sell it just yet. But I’ll need to see what I can get for it before I upgrade.

George,
The Truss Discovery is a good scope. The price is reasonable too. The Optics are good, though probably not quite as good as a Royce or Zambuto, but very good.
They are heavy at 125 lb and big too. So transportion is a consideration.
I have not used this scope but have used the 12.5" truss and the 15" Split-Tube and they were both good views.
The extra 5" of mirror will be good for DSO exploration.
The height at 7' 3.5" will require some sort of step ladder of course, even if you are tall.
Big question would be, "Do you have the means to transport the scope?" It sounds like you would be large enough to handle the weight so it is mainly size to consider.
Eurvin had the 17.5" Split-Tube and he found it to be quite difficult to manage. The Truss Tube should be easier.
