When does one determine when it is time to recoat the main mirror? What are some companies that do an excellent job at this?

Spectrum in Florida is one of the best coating shops. There are others on the East Coast, but I think they are the best shop, Carl Zambuto uses them, good enough for me. 8)
As to when to coat, hmmm, good question, hard answer.
If the coatings are deteriorating to the point of spots and tarnished areas, or if the coating is like a one way mirror when you look from the back, it is time. Some say you look at the number of pinholes you can see from the rear, some say it is if the coatings take on a foggy appearance from an angle or when looking at yourself in it.
I am not sure there is a steadfast rule, but if the coatings are over 5 years old and have had a bit of exposure to salt, dew or acid air, then it is a candidate. However some mirrors are fine after 10 years.
I know, not that much help!
But it is a tough question to answer definitively.
