Looking for a new focuser for my CR6". What's your opinion
of the William Optics 2" DDG Synta Refractor focuser? Is the Moon Light 2SP worth the extra $135?
Thanks for the advice. De Lorme

It's is absolutely worth the added expense, IMHO. I replaced the really crappy focuser on both my SN-10 and my MTS-SN6. The SN-10 got a Moonlite 3-speed focuser that is incredibly smoother and more solid than the original Meade one, which may have been made by Synta or one of its relatives.

For the MTS-SN6, which is also a Meade Schmidt-Newtonian, I got a custom-made focuser from Dan Crawford of Crawford Machine Shop in Vale, NC. It was less expensive than the Moonlite, not quite as well-appointed, but still a lot better than the original. In fact, it is better than any GSO focuser I have seen, for about the same money. I gave that scope to my son and grandchildren, who really love using it.

Both of these focusers were made in the USA by true craftsmen. I honor their handiwork and always try to support American craftspeople when I can. If something goes wrong with either of these, I can send the Moonlite back to Pennsylvania and the Crawford to North Carolina and be assured that any problems will be corrected quickly and without charge. Try getting that from Synta or GSO.
