Zenithstar 80 ED II Focusing problem

Tried out the new scope last night for the first time. I was using a 1.25" diagonal. I tried a Nagler 13 and a Meade 6-24 zoom lens. With the focuser racked all the way out I still could not get a sharp image with either eyepiece. It seemed like it needed just another quarter turn of the knob. Any suggestions would be helpful.

(I'll also post this on the refractor forum).

Thanks,
Joe Moskowitz

Just as an experiment, try not putting the eyepiece all the way in. Leave it out 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Not so much that you are not confident it will hold. Then try focusing again. Try to determine just how much you need. It could be that a simple extender will do the job. These are available for pretty cheap.

Temporary extender. Unscrew the lens from the end of a barlow. Use the tube (no lens assembly) as an exyender. Do you reach focus?

Much better to have to much back focus then not enough,
for when you start putting gadgets on.
