I live in the suburbs...light pollution here is moderate but not bad. I was wondering...overall bang for the buck what's a better all around eyepiece for use a 12 or 16mm nagler? (or a UWA eyepiece in general). Use it with an 8" hardin dobsonian. I just have a cheap 17mm WA no name eyepiece now but i'd like a better one with better edge and field sharpness. I'd like it to be 1.25" as well so i can use a barlow on it when needed. Any input appreciated =)

Mike: I have both the 12mm and the 16mm Type 2 Naglers and use them in a variety of scopes, most of the use is in either some faster reflectors, F/4-F/6 or as well as some 80-102 mm F/7 refractors...
The choice between the two mostly depends on the other eyepieces one has but I find I use the 16mm Nagler a great deal... I have always found that a 16mm eyepiece makes a very nice medium power eyepiece... Cosider that the 16mm Nagler provides about the same true field of view as a 25mm Plossl...
The step from the 16mm to the 9mm is about right, for me the 12mm fits in to bridge that gap for particular targets and situations, some nights the 12mm just stays in the case, some nights it gets a reasonable amount of use.
With your 8 inch DOB, it would provide 75x with a TFoV of a bit more than 1 degree and 2.7mm exit pupil... IMHO, thats a nice place to be.

This should produce considerable disagreement! I do use a 8" Dob (f 5.7) which should be similar to your Hardin. I own a 20 mm Type 5 and a 13 mm type 6. For objects up to the size of the double cluster I like the 13mm. I have used a 12mm Nagler type 2. It certainly had the space-walk feel, but I can see more contrast with the type 6. And I don't find those double skirt eyepieces to be comfortable in a 1.25 inch barlow or focuser.
In that focal length the Meade UWA 14 has a very devoted following, and it splits the difference between 12 and 16 mm.

For your 8" dob a 12mm T4 Nagler may cause balance issues. 13mm Nagler T6 is much smaller & lighter. Same for the old 16mm Naglers - very heavy eyepieces. The new 16mm T6 Naglers are what to look at - much, much lighter. The only drawback for the T6s may be shorter eye relief.
