I own a Meade #140 2x barlow and considering upgrading to something better. Does anyone have any advise as to the quality of this particular barlow. I am thinking of getting a telvue or possibly one of the new Meade barlows.

Brian, are you looking for 1.25" or 2" barlow?

Do consider the Televue Powermates. I use a 2.5x with my Televue Plossls. I started with both the celeston ultima and Klee barlows, and but found the FOV vignetted. Others more versed in optics can tell you why.

I received the Orion Shorty Barlow. It does seem to have very slightly better light transmission than the Meade #140. Probably because it is fully-multi-coated, as opposed to just multi-coated. I am not sure if I am going to be able to keep it though because it does not really seem to work well with my 24mm Panoptic. Does anyone know of a problem with Panoptic eyepieces and shorty barlows?
