I notice that Meade research grade orthos are going for $95 here on Astromart. Are they really so good that a used 20 year-old eyepiece would command a higher price than a new University Optics HD or classic ortho?

I did not find them to be superior to the UO Ortho. From what I can understand, the "Research Grade" moniker was added as a sales hype to increase the number of sales on several items by Meade.
One of our club members bought and entire set at RTMC last year for around $100.
