Parcorr VS Baader MPCC

I have a fast Newtonian on a EQ6 Pro and plan to do, later on, astrophotography with a DSLR, the Canon 40D. In the meantime, and after very good advice from more experienced astronomers at this forum, I've decided not to go with the WO UWAN 28mm EP or the TV Panoptic 27mm EP, but with the 26mm TV Nagler.

Since I also have 2 Baader Hyperions (8mm and 13mm) which later on I might replace by a couple of Naglers (depends on the money I have), I decided to get a Coma corrector. Although I Know tha Paracorr is King, I've been hearing so many good things about the Baader MPCC that I'm tempted to get one instead of the ParaCorr. I

n Portugal the Paracorr costs €350 and the MPCC €170... it's half the price.
So once again, and because I value very much the experience and opinion of my fellow astronomers, I would like to hear your insights on these 2 accessories.

Thanks and cheers,

Paulo

Paulo:

I have never used the MPCC but I do remember reading that it does add some spherical aberration... Anyway, this is my thinking as someone who regularly observes with a variety of faster Newtonians including 8 inch and 10 inch F/5s, a 12.5 inch F/4.06 and a 16 inch F/4.42.

The Paracorr lives in the focuser when I am observing. At low and medium powers the way it cleans up the view is quite remarkable. The other day a friend was asking what coma was. So I showed him the view of an open cluster the 12.5 inch with and without the Paracorr. Without the Paracorr, the characteristic off-axis Sea Gulls were quite apparent, with the Paracorr, the stars are sharp right up to the edge, coma gone. At high powers, viewing planets for example, the sweet spot is much larger. Without the Paracorr, the sharp planetary views are only in the very center but with the Paracorr a good portion of the field of view offers that same good, clean view.

For someone who always uses a coma corrector, the Paracorr is much easier to use, you can put it in the focuser and swap eyepieces back and forth as if it were not there. With the MPCC, it needs to be adapted to individual eyepieces so each time you swap eyepieces, it is not a simple operation.

Also, I am not sure how the costs work out but it is my understanding that MPCC will have additional costs associated with aquiring the adapters necessary.

If you are lucky, you might find an Astromarter willing to sell you a Paracorr, that just might make it affordable.
