I happen to run across this advertisement on Stew Squires site:
“Pentax SMC ED eyepieces are Super Multi-Coated (SMC) and made of ED optical glass for exceptional quality.”

Since I have a very nice set of Pentax SMC eyepieces and have been using Takumar SMC lenses on my Spotmatic since about 1970, this intrigues me. I haven’t been able to find out anything more or if these eyepieces actually exist. The advertising picture on the website is so poor you can’t tell if they really are something different or just a set of the regular Pentax SMC Ortho’s. Mr. Squires hasn’t responded to an email yet but in fairness I only sent it a yesterday.

Just curious if anyone knows anything about these New, Rare, or Mythical eyepieces.

Have a great weekend all!

Clear Skies, Bill

Hi Bill, I wasn't aware that Stew had a site, and if you could, can you please post a link to it? (As long as it's permissible here) I've known Stew for a number of years, he's a fellow Apomax owner, and has in the past been a Questar, Pentax, and losmandy Dealer. If memory serves me correctly, I even bought a SMC Ortho, or two from him in the past, and me, and my friend went through him, when my friend wished to purchase a new G-11 Mount. Though I've never heard of this particular eyepiece you mention, it sounds very likely that Pentax has come out with a new one. I'm sure Stew will get back to you as soon as he can. When you get more info about these, please give us a follow up Bill, Thanks. Mark D'Ambrosio

Hi Bill, that site of Stew's is from his days as a dealer I believe. The eyepieces referenced are the Pentax smc Orthos. They have one element which is a low dispersion glass.

Sorry I've been out of town for the Memorial Day weekend.
I wasn't sure if it's legal to post another dealers website or not so I omitted it from the original post. If this isn't legit here my apologies. Here's the page I found through a Google search: http://www.tar-palantir.com/po.htm
I did receive an email from Stew Squires indicating he had not updated the pag in awhile and the Pentax SMC ED eyepieces are no longer available except used.
I'm still a bit confused if these are different from the Pentax SMC Ortho's but from the kind response posted here it sounds like they're one in the same. If I find out differently I'll let you know.
Clear Skies, Bill
