Selling NEAF blem eyepieces

Hi all,

I have a couple of NEAF blem ep's that I've had for about 4 years (purchased in 2001 at NEAF) that I want to sell. I can't figure out if this practice is frowned upon or considered unethical. I did purchase them for personal use - and used them alot - but now I want to get away from the heavier EP's and I could use the money to finance an ATM project. I'm probably going to sell a couple of used Pentax XL's also.

I figured I would charge a bit less than I paid and throw in a couple of plastic bolt cases.

Is there anything wrong with doing this? Is there any sort of classified ad rule against it? Just looking for clarification here. I read all the rules and can't find a definite answer anywhere.

Thanks,

Mike

I think if you disclose that they are NEAFs and
pass on the good deal to fellow astromarters, there
will be few objections. I think the moral issues
arise only if one were to try to sell them for more
than Al's NEAF price.

Market. If the buyer and the seller are happy, it's perfectly moral.

I bought a NEAF blem eypiece here on Astromart a while back. It was advertised as such and offered a a good price. I'm quite happy with it, although it does have that annoying little mark on it wink

Seems to me that you have an astronomical item with some market value. The market just needs to be informed that these are NEAF seconds so that it can assign the right value. Selling an item without disclosing its status as a "second" would be fraud. Selling the item with this disclosure should pose no ethical problems. The other thing that happens, however, is NEAF flipping. That sort of thing gets monitored here, I think, because flipping for profit is a commercial use of Astromart. Nothing wrong with that, but then you gotta pay to play.

Hi Mike, there is no problem selling the TV blems as long as the buyer knows there blems. A few years ago Gary Hand from Hands on Optics was sending some of his customers over to buy the blems and then selling them on e bay afew days latter, now thats not a good practice to get into even for a dealer :C :C :C . Good Luck, James....

The reselling of NEAF EPs is just fine, but should include this information when sold. I can not say that I have seen anything on a NEAF so far that made it stand out as a NEAF other than the punch mark.
Still, a NEAF should not cost the same as a Premium EP in the used market if you ask me. The discount should be in line with that of a Premium EP when sold used.
My opinion. smile
