It does help a lot, I think, if the first time you set up and run the Gemini system you do it in your living room.

And then if you can have a helper who knows the system around to help you on startup outdoors, it is really easier to understand everything.

I agree with Alex, you can work with it in the house and even do a mock alignment and Go-To as well.
Make sure you read the manual a bit, I realize it is big but a quick look through helps. There are also quick setup sheets available if you search online.
I have a DOC file from the Losmandy Users forum on Yahoo that has a good information, but this all found in the manual.
