Proper Refractor Mounting

I am new to refractors, just coming from an LX-90, Im not sure I am mounting my refractor correctly on the mount.I have an AR5 and when it is in the mount and the scope is pointed above 45 degrees or so , Im almost laying on the ground to the look through the thing. I have the tripod fully extended, but I feel I should put the scope int he rings so there is more of it hanging over the counter weight.

Thanks for the info Dan.

I was searching the net and found a adapter that would allow me to mount the LXD75 EQ mount on a LX200/LX90 style tripod that is taller and more stable. I might go that route
