I am looking at purchasing a mirror and came across a name I have not heard of and thought I would put it out here and see if any of you all know anything about them. The company is Big Eye Optics and the owner is Tony Gondola out of New Mexico. His website is http://www.digital-flight.com/thebigeye/optics.htm and I am wondering if anyone has any experience with his mirrors. I am working on an 8 inch Dob and looking for an f/5 mirror maybe f/6 still deciding. I had pretty much decided on Royce and then came across Big Eye Optics and thought I would ask around. Let me know what you all think.

Hi Trenton, I can give you a little info about Big Eye Optics. I have corresponded with Tony on several occasions as I have been finishing a 10 inch F4.9 mirror (Now complete and ready for coating). Tony has been very helpful and appears to be a person of honor and integrity. I'm sure Tony would work with you to make an 8 inch mirror that you would be well pleased with.

I built (2) 8 inch DOB's one is F6.25 the other is F4.5 I find that I use the F6.25 more frequently because it has a much more comfortable viewing position. I find for me at 6 feet tall that 50" focus mirror is my sweet spot. The 36" focus telescope is lighter and faster to setup so I do use it for "grab and go" but the F6.25 gets more use for me.

FYI Dave

P.S. Invest in or build a good observers chair.
