Focuser placement - 90 or 45 deg

I am trying to decide where to place the focuser board on my 18" dob that I'm building.

I've noticed that a lot of big dobs have the focuser right above the truss poles on the side so that focuser is perpendicular to the altitude bearings (I'm calling this 90 deg).

Others have it more towards the back of the mirror box, 45 deg back from coming straight out the side.

The 90 deg would work great for viewing about 60 deg in altitude, but the 45 deg version would work best for low altitude viewing. Which is better? Does it matter?

Personally, I find having a focuser parallel to the ground (your 90 degree) VERY uncomfortable if the eyepiece is below eye height. It is difficult to squat down and try to look straight ahead. It is much easier, IMHO, to bend downward and look downward into the eyepiece.

Craig,
I agree with Michael (and the others). If you use a ladder at all 45 may be too much and 90 is uncomfortable at low altitude. I have set the focuser on both of my telescopes (16" and 22") to about the 60-70 degree position.
