I have a Meade 12.5 star finder and am in the middle of rebuilding it. However I did something very dumb to the mirror when I was still very new to the hobby. I tried to clean the dust off it with a camel hair brush, So now there is allot of tiny scratches on it, not deep...seems to be on the coatings IM guessing. At any rate, Meade glued the mirror and top of a piece of 1-inch particleboard. After reading on this site I am wondering if that is affecting my performance. Besides that I thinking about getting it redone at Galaxy Optics but don’t now how to get it off the piece of wood with our missing it up any more. Or wondering if I did ruin the mirror any way.
ANY SUGESSTIONS?

Recoating will remove the scratches.
You can cut the wood off and then remove the glue by using a piece of guitar string or piano wire or safety wire. Use it like a saw between the mirror and the wood. It will cut through eventually. You can also use any other type of blade as long as you cut into the wood.
If they used epoxy to glue it, there are epoxy removers available to eat off the glue from the mirror without hurting the glass, it will however attack the coatings, but if your going to recoat, then that is no problem.
It will not cost too much to recoat. Then you can build a good mirror cell or buy one.
