My 8" f/6 custom dob currently has a 1.25" focuser. I am certainly missing out on some nice wide field views. Does anyone know if it it is possible to switch it out with a 2 inch focuser and what would be involved?

Hi Brian

A couple things come to mind.

1. The 2" focuser should have the same height and travel as the 1.25".
2. Can the 2" fit where the 1.25" is now? The draw tube hole will most likely need to be enlarged and the mount screw holes may need relocating.
3. Balance, if the new 2" is much heavier then you may have to make balance adjustments.

Thank you again for all who have helped. I finished installing the focuser today on my day off and it worked out well. Scope is all collimated again. As luck would have it, I also just ran across a fellow selling an old TeleVue wf-40mm on Amart and got it for what an ok price, hopefully. I think I will enjoy cruising the Milky Way in a 2 TFoV ep as I have never had that experience before... Hopefully the performance of this ep will be between one of the cheapoo 2 inch eyepieces and the 35pan...probably won't get seasick form the pincushion distortion. Thanks again to all who have replied and helped out! I'll try to attach a pix...
