Plastic gears!!

Hey Guys (Gals?),

I am trying to mount some optical encoders on my XT8 that need a gearing ratio of 4:1 so I can get the resolution up to around 4000ticks/rev. I figured that the best way to do it was to get two polymer gears and mate them with some sort of bracket or whatnot. HOWEVER, I can not find plastic/polymer gears anywhere. I have been searching the internet the last day and a half looking for some. If anyone has any sites of interest or knows where I can find some, I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks and Clear Skies!!

Jon

Try here, http://www.sdp-si.com/eStore/CoverPg/Gears.htm , I've never used them but they seem to have a lot of gears.

Hi

I would stay away from plastic gears. I would go to a two round plywood circles with a ribed rubber banding around it to make up the gears.

Hey guys,

I think, after some consideration, that I may be able to install the encoders without the gears. I think that 1000tics should be enough for the Dave Eks DSC. So, I will install them pretty soon hopefully and I'll let everyone know how it goes!

UPDATE:

Hey guys,

I have just finished placing all the necessary orders for the Dave Eks DSC system. I am going to begin mounting tomorrow. I'll post some pictures later tomorrow of my progress with the mounting. Thanks again for all your help!!
