Anyone have any idea of the value of a 12.5" pyrex full thick mirror marked "refigured by Cave etc" in 1967 with serial number and test data slip?
Coating is shot but the figure is excellent.
Thanks

Bernie, what are the test results? It doesn't sound like a "run of the mill" mirror, but if the data includes a Strehl it would help its value.

I highly recommend anyone to purchase an old mirror that was refigured by Cave Optical! If you had Tom Cave,Alika Herring,or any of their other MASTER OPTICIANS refigure it then you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality. Please do examine the optics in an OTA by viewing the planets to find hard, sharp detail!(contrast!)Check out the double stars separations! Most of all the star test will tell you everything! As Carl Zambuto has clearly stated find a master of the knife edge(foucault test) and in 30 minutes he can tell you what you have!!!A good ronchi grating will reveal surface and edge appearance quickly. Please do not judge that mirror on a BAD SEEING NIGHT!Wait patiently for GOOD SEEING CONDITIONS and then push it to the limit! Can it hold 50x to 60x per inch?More?NEVER test harshly under the JET STREAM WINDS!Many have passed on GOOD mirrors to hear later the new owner has a gem!!!!michael green
