refractor questions

I am saving $$ for a new scope but wonder which one I should be saving for. I am an early amateur who is just starting to find deep sky objects with my 8"dob. I am wanting a 4" stellarvue refractor but don't know if I should save for the more expensive SV4 APO or for the SV102 ED doublet which is significantly less. I am wondering if the SV4's qualities will be "wasted" on me given my level of experience. Also can anyone tell me what "ED" stands for? I don't seem to be able to find that anywhere.

Thanks,
Mo

PS: In case anyone is wondering I used to have a SV Nighthawk but decided I wanted more. Aperture fever I guess......
