questions about new NexStar 8i SE

I just received my new NexStar 8i SE. I have the Celestron power tank, which I intend to use whenever I take the 'scope out. I also installed the AA batteries. Is there any reason to keep the batteries in if I'm going to be using the power tank? If the batteries are installed and I attach the power tank, does the scope automatically use the power tank as a default? Do I need to attach the hand contol to the Aux connection or should I leave it hooked up in its cradle when the power tank is attached?

I couldn't find answers to these questions in the manual so I'd appreciate some help.

You dont need the batteries when you use the power tank. The unit should save the batteries if the tank is used at the same time. Alwys leave the controler hooked to the proper connection do not use it in the aux.

My experience with an older model of the NexStar 8i is this: When you have connected a power supply to the 12-volt power input -- whether you're using a portable power tank or an "AC adapter" (i.e., a transformer connected to an AC outlet) -- the telescope will draw its power from that source and the installed AA batteries will not disturb it. Those batteries themselves are ok for moving the scope's motors in altitude and azimuth while you are setting it up or taking it down, but don't rely on them for the actual work of aligning, slewing and tracking during an observing session; they are inadequate for those purposes.
