ISS - STS112 AWESOME

Cloudy skies parted 15 min before the scheduled pass of the International Space Station as predicted by heavens-above website. As the station cleared about 20 deg. elevation, a second bright object came into view on exactly the same heading about 20-30deg behind; it was the shuttle! The space station was predicted at mag -1.0 but it looked much brighter possibly due to the addition of the new truss segment. The shuttle was probably as bright as mag. 0 but it was always a magnitude or so dimmer than the ISS. They had parted earlier in the day and were still on the same orbital path ( visually).

Another pass for the central and eastern US is possible tonight but the shuttle is scheduled for a manuevering burn at 4:30pm today so that may change

Anybody else see this one?

I was enroute to our observatory for a meeting and caught the last half of it just as I arrived. Pretty neat! I also got to see a -8 Iridium about 20 minutes later (thanks Rick).
