RECENT FORUM ACTIVITY

I like Astromart!

Howdy; I'm still trying to get comfortable with the new and improved format here... Notice that one thing that it is no longer (?) highlighting recent Forum Posts? I see the time of most recent, in each category is there... but not otherwise flagged, as they used to be. And even the times are incorrect. Previously, I could quickly scan the Forum List for recent activity, ignoring the Political, which seems to dominate since we elected a president from the other party. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

PS The weak link in most Forums is just that. No convenient way to see what's recent, what's especially active. Lazy visitors (like me) just click out at that point.


One more observation, the improved Astromart seems to refresh WAY slower. That, also, tends to chase visitors away. Thanks!  Tom

When viewing the forum list if you look at the right side you will note that the last topic to be updated is shown with date time and poster name.

If it is unread the topic title will be bolded in blue.

Once you open a particular forum all the new unread topics are in bolded blue.

Since I have not found a way to mark all forums as read in one pass it requires a bit of work on our part to get things on track. IE make a pass thru all the forums and open at least the most recent topic so it gets marked as read. This is because under the new software ALL last read pointers started out as unread.

Once you have done that back out and refresh the forum list.....you will note that none of the listed last posts are bolded. From that point on the only bolded ones you should see have new posts. 

All that said, with all the work that has been going on with bug fixes, updates and added features for the last week I have noticed that the last read pointers have been lost several times.

Given the way it works now there really should be an option that lets you mark any given forum as totally read much like CN has......but until that happens the above process is the only way I know of to sync your last reads with the system.

Closely related: This nice HP Laptop here, the latest version of Win 10 would not load; Bill Gates threatening to wreak havoc if I didn't spend days learning machine code; MS even called it "My Problem" (not theirs). I finally took it to a local IT service. They did that and more, with some difficulty. My conclusion: as hardware and software get more ~user-friendly~ ... the OPPOSITE happens. This also applies to web sites... too glitzy may chase away more users than it attracts! I don't want to have to learn the new and improved versions every couple of years.  Tom
